Week 12 - 21st-25th June 2010

Week 12 also the last week for my industrial training. Things are getting settle down. Most of the time I was in office updating reports likes reticulation, power cable schedule and lightings cable schedule. Help supervisor warehouse to collect equipments like batteries, torchlight, padlocks, tapes and many more. I also help technicians update their motor rating report.

Week 11 - 14th-19th June 2010

I left 2 more weeks in MMHE yet I'm still learning something new everyday. Busduct vendor, Mr. Roger arrived from Belgium. His job here is to make sure that all the busduct joints are casted properly and the connections are in good shape. Some new knowledge from client on the Star-Delta connection based on this project design and needs. Casting the busduct joint requires Beto-Iso-Mix. Vendors from TriSystems came to do some settings and also testing on the hydrogen detector meter in battery room. It is more to instrument department. 3rd HSE Day was celebrated for the 5 million manhours without LTI. MSF was packed with activities like lighting and socket outlet testing. Water maker pump for solo-run test was not left out too. Module 6 went for weighing on Friday evening as a preparation before it gets sail away by the end of August. Saturday was as usual with the housekeeping day. Busduct casting still in progress and final test will be done tomorrow (Sunday).

Week 10 - 7th-12th June 2010

Week 10 was busy and it started off with a bad weather. Anew documentation needed to be done, Fabrication Punchlist. Switchgear room's atmosphere was a little bit tension. Things did not go well as many part of the switchgear need to be corrected. This time I followed Mr. Florante for the Fire Water line walk. Pipes used in this system are made out of a material named Glass Re-enforcement Epoxy (GRE). It is cheaper and long lasting. Obtained an overview of how nitrogen generator system and its usage. It acts more like a filter. The speed of the nitrogen's flow will affect its purity. SSpP-5510 & SSP-5530 went through a in-house checking. Troubleshooting, Megger Test and readings like starting and running amps were performed. I was explained on our GENSET. What are the main components and how synchronization works are stored in my head. After troubleshooting both the SSP, 24 hours of endurance test was carried out. In terms of safety, I was showed the proper way of dealing with high voltage cables. A practice that should be remembers at all time. Lead-Lag Process was performed on the air compressors. Comp. 1 (Lead) and comp. 2 (Lag) will be running based on the settings set by client. Comp. 1 works as normal while comp. 2 works as a back-up.

Week 9 - 31st May-5th June 2010

On the week 9, I decided to have a walk to module 1 & module 2. Technician, Mr. Sam was performing Ducter and Megger Test on one of the DB. Vendor switchgear came for troubleshooting and testing throughout this whole week. Have a "line walk" with Mr. Florante, piping lead engineer. He is kind to share with me his knowledge although I am from electrical background. Line walk consists of checking the progress on site as well as components of pipes. P&ID are vital in this scope. On Thursday, there will be testing on lighting and socket outlet and I'm glad to be able to participate in it. Mr. Farid gave me a chance to offer testing for client on socket outlet. It went well and the result was good, 33ms (tripping time). A bad news strikes us in the next morning toolbox meeting. Our "anaconda" cable was broken and needed to be replaced. Replacement was carried out with checking the new cable's condition. Resistance and Megger Test were performed. Did some documentation like sorting out all types of motors in all modules together with its voltage, power and current values.

Week 8 - 24th-29th May 2010

After 2 months in MMHE, experiences and technical skills here are difficult to obtain elsewhere. This week started off with a little bit slower but managed to pick up towards the end. I was focusing myself on drawing and single line diagram. Mainly on 6.6kV switchgear panel. Module 7 will soon go through weighing and therefore cables below it needed to be clear. Progress on helideck was good. Almost everything was prepared to be tested. A big change since I last visited. Found 2 more types of lighting, indication and flood light. Fourth day of the week, I participated in testing of Potable Water Pump and Wash Water Pump. Uncoupled test run or solo-run test was carried out to see motor's original performance. Temp., rotation, vibration, rpm, starting & running amp, winding resistance & isolation and Megger test were performed on each motor. SSP-5510 and SSP-5530 went through a Current Injection Test (CIT). It checked the tripping time of the circuit breaker with it's percentage load. Usually 75%, 100%, 200% and 300% more than it's normal maximum value are injected using Current Injector.

Week 7 - 17th-22nd May 2010

Toolbox meeting for T&C and PMT will be separated from this week onwards. I get to learn types of starters in module 6 and how to differentiate it. Mr. Kamal took the effort to explained more detail about DOL starter by referring to single line diagram. There were "Torque Check" through out this whole week. I involved myself in placing GENSET to know the preparations and procedures. Voltage Stabilizer had some voltage drop in the output. Tried to find the fault with technicians. From there I again exposed to new items, True Clamp Meter where current inside a cable can be measure easily. Supervisor finally allowed me to perform Ducter Test. Meanwhile I learned how to use Torque Check equipment from other technicians. Followed Mr. Shahrizal to find fault for RCU panel after receiving report from technicians. Went around with Mr. Suhaimi to check lighting status as preparations to offer testing to client.

Week 6 - 10th-15th May 2010

In week 6, I went through the "Electrical Checksheet Overview" for Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd. We can find system number, system description, equipment description, construction inspection sheet (CS) and functional test sheet (FS). CS and FS are so important for Testing & Commissioning as a prove of work completion and also verified by client. Visited MSF as there is a problem with the air compressor. Water are dripping in the panel during rain. Had discussion to solve while waiting for vendors to come. I was introduced to Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) and explained of its function.

Week 5 - 3rd-8th May 2010

Fifth week was rather busy but it was a fruitful week. Finally I was able to get my feet step on the helideck. Parameter light can only be found on helideck and saw the process of glanding the cable. Visited "CCR Room" or Plant Monitoring & Control Room (PMCS). Able to see vendor doing changes on drawer position indication for starters and what's inside the soft starter panel of 5510 & 5530. Get an overview of LOTO system on DB-7862. Did a short report on "Vibrotip Data Collector" requested by Mr. Azhari. So lucky invited to attend confined space meeting at PMT office. From there we get to learn the requirement to work in confined space. Given task to do "Reticulation Report" by supervisor. I also witnessed "Megger Test" on MCC-7810, space heater for DB-7862. After a month, I get to performed a "Control Test" for MCC-7850 using Digital Multimeter under supervision of technician, Mr. Azami. Another Saturday yet another housekeeping day.

Week 4 - 26th-30th April 2010

Week 4 was getting more challenging. It started off with Mr. Shahrizal visiting MSF and switchgear room. Did researched on types of circuit breakers and it's usage. Visited MSF again to see the defect of air compressor and technicians are working on it. At the same time Mr. Azhari briefed me on the flow of air compressor and dryer. Being exposed to "RCCB Digital Tester" while offering testing to client. It's used to check continuity test as well as tripping time test. Learned little bit skill of glanding cable. Had opportunity to witnessed "Torque Check" on busbar followed by "Ducter Test" to check the resistance between joint to joint of busbar. Readings below 10 micro Ohm are consider good.
